DFC’s Annual Summer Event at Hazlewood Castle
Last week, we gathered at Hazlewood Castle in Yorkshire for our Annual Summer Event. This was one event on DFC’s calendar that everyone was looking forward to. This marks the third event of its kind, following our gatherings in Sheffield back in 2023 and Leeds in 2024. As our team has grown significantly over the last few years, it’s become increasingly challenging to find a suitable venue. Nevertheless, we were in good hands, as James and Lindsey managed to find the perfect location for us this year – have we mentioned it was at a castle? When the venue was announced, an air of anticipation filled the room as everyone started looking forward to the festivities. The castle provided the perfect setting for our team activities in the afternoon, followed by a summer BBQ in the evening in the woodlands on the grounds of the castle.
As everyone gathered in the Great Hall, we enjoyed an update from our Directors, who shared the latest company news and exciting plans they have in store for us in the coming months and years ahead.
After the sharp and short presentation, which was designed to keep everyone engaged, spirits were high. We mingled and enjoyed lunch with colleagues from other office locations while the sun shone down on what was undoubtedly one of the most beautiful days to be out of the office and having fun together. Speaking of fun, the afternoon and evening were packed with it.
By noon, we were divided into groups to tackle some outdoor team activities and what a blast it was! The high-energy activities included archery, axe throwing, cryptic chase and other rapid-fire games that blended logical thinking, teamwork and strategical fun. These challenges perfectly combined ice-breaking, energising teamwork and a little competitive spirit – it was an ideal way to get our adrenaline pumping while gaining a sense of purpose as well as a lot of Vitamin D.
As we learned, it’s not just about hurling axes or letting arrows fly through the air; it’s about embracing new skills and, who knows, maybe discovering a hidden talent along the way! The spirit of teamwork truly came alive during our outdoor activities. From exhilarating challenges to cooperative games, laughter echoed through the castle grounds as we collaborated and supported one another. These experiences strengthened our ties and highlighted the team spirit that is characteristic of life at DFC.
We had the pleasure of welcoming several newcomers to DFC recently and their fresh perspectives brought an exciting energy to the event. Here’s what Rav Dhanjal, a new Director who recently joined us to set up our new Birmingham office, shared:
“Participating in this event for the first time made me feel incredibly welcomed,” he shared. “Honestly, it felt like I had been here for years! The evening games were definitely a memorable part of the day.” Rav also mentioned “These events show how we value our people; it’s always a nice way to thank everyone for their hard work. It’s part of being ‘one DFC’- promoting integration and inclusion. It gave me a sense of pride in being part of a company that prioritises bringing people together and creating a positive work culture.”
On the other hand, Faith, one of our apprentices, reflected on what being part of DFC meant to her as she joined in the festivities. “Participating in the summer event for the first time made me feel more connected to the wider DFC team. It was clear that a lot of effort went into organising the day. It gave me a sense of pride in being part of a company that prioritises bringing people together and creating a positive work culture.”, she explained. “The highlight for me was seeing everyone come together during the activities; it really captured the essence of fun, friendliness and teamwork.” She added, “It creates opportunities for the team to connect and build relationships in a more relaxed, informal setting. That kind of connection carries back into the workplace, making collaboration smoother and morale higher.”
As the sun set on our evening BBQ in the woodlands at the castle, we shared stories and laughter that showed the core values of DFC – community, collaboration and celebrating our collective successes. Events like these remind us of the importance of building relationships, playing a vital role in fostering a supportive and vibrant workplace culture.
If you’re looking for a workplace where teamwork thrives and every day comes with the promise of new adventures, we’d love to hear from you! At DFC, we’re dedicated to creating not just a job, but a community.
