Supporting the Next Generation of Structural Fire Engineers: Iolanda Del Prete Joins the IFE Fire Resistance SIG Committee
We believe that contributing to the profession extends beyond the delivery of projects. Sharing knowledge, supporting emerging engineers and engaging with industry bodies all play an important role in advancing fire safety and structural fire engineering. For Iolanda, DFC’s Senior Associate – Structural Fire Engineer, these activities are a natural extension of her day-to-day work.
We are pleased to share that Iolanda Del Prete has recently joined the committee of the Institution of Fire Engineers’ Fire Resistance Special Interest Groups (SIG). The Groups brings together industry professionals to discuss technical challenges, share expertise and contribute to the development of guidance and best practice across the fire sector.
The appointment reflects Iolanda’s longstanding commitment to professional engagement, knowledge sharing and supporting the next generation of engineers.
Alongside her project work, Iolanda regularly contributes to industry events organised by the SFPE UK Chapter, where she shares technical insights and real-world project experience with fellow professionals, students and early-career engineers. Later this year, Iolanda will also begin supporting the Institution of Civil Engineers through the review of professional chartership applications, helping candidates as they progress towards professional qualification.
For Iolanda, these activities are closely connected to her passion for mentoring and supporting the next generation of engineers.
“As a Structural Fire Engineer, I believe we have a responsibility not only to deliver safe and innovative designs but also to inspire and support the next generation. Through knowledge sharing, engagement with professional institutions and collaboration across the industry, I hope to promote and encourage more young engineers to discover structural fire engineering and build their careers within the profession.”
Her involvement with the IFE’s Fire Resistance SIG will provide further opportunities to collaborate with industry peers, contribute to technical discussions and help strengthen links between the fire and structural engineering professions.
“Through these activities, I hope to improve visibility, encourage collaboration and create clearer pathways into structural fire engineering, helping more young engineers discover and thrive in this field.”
Reflecting on her career during this year’s International Women in Engineering Day, Iolanda spoke about the importance of helping others develop and creating opportunities for future engineers. Her involvement with the IFE Fire Resistance SIG is a natural extension of that commitment.
We are delighted to see Iolanda contributing to the wider profession and look forward to the insights and opportunities that her involvement with the IFE Fire Resistance SIG will bring.
