Sophie Ewen

Graduate Engineer

Sophie is a graduate fire engineer with an MEng (Hons) in Structural and Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Edinburgh. Her integrated Master’s degree provided a strong foundation in both structural and fire safety disciplines, covering topics such as fire science, fire dynamics, structural design for fire, fire safety engineering, and structural analysis. For her final-year thesis, Sophie investigated the burning characteristics of firebrands to support research into wildfire spread and structural ignition—reflecting her interest in addressing climate-related challenges within the built environment.

In 2024, Sophie completed a summer placement with DFC, gaining valuable experience in fire engineering consultancy. This experience has provided a strong platform for her professional development and her contribution to fire safety in multidisciplinary projects.
