Jack Mitchell
Graduate
Jack joined DFC after discovering the company at a careers fair in 2023. After thoroughly enjoying his summer placement with DFC, he decided to join the company in a part-time role while pursuing his Masterās degree (MEng) in Fire Engineering at the University of Central Lancashire. His interest in fire engineering began as a Fire Cadet with Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service, where he gained valuable experience in practical firefighting and leadership, eventually becoming a Cadet Watch Manager. During his first year at DFC, Jack has gained experience on a variety of commercial, residential, and expert witness projects.
Jack was awarded First Prize at the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) Graduate Lecture Event for his third-year dissertation entitled āA comparative study of the level of safety offered by single-stair and dual-stair high-rise residential buildings in the UK,ā judged by a panel of industry-leading experts.
For his final year dissertation, Jack is currently undertaking an experimental analysis of factors affecting fire spread within inverted flat roof system cavities, reflecting his desire to tackle the challenges associated with modern methods of construction. Throughout his academic journey so far, Jack has developed an understanding of many areas within the field, including fire dynamics, thermodynamics, computational fluid dynamics, probabilistic risk analysis, and engineering design.Ā
