Project Description

55 Portland Street involves the development of an existing 8-storey office and a new hotel and casino in Manchester city centre. DFC has been appointed on the office.

Being an existing building, there are several fire engineering challenges, and our role is to help the client reach cost certainty and work to de-risk the regulatory approvals process.

Fire engineering challenges include: the implications of adding two storeys, ensuring that maximum value is obtained from the retro-fitting of sprinklers, working within the constraints of the exiting core to ensure adequate means of escape and fire service access and facilities, and assessment of the existing structure to ensure that it has adequate fire resistance for modern standards and the additional floors.
